The Seven Seals - Part 3

REVELATION 6 v 12-17
How ready are we for these judgments?
The first five seals have been more specific judgments on people but this sixth one is universal it affects the whole world. This earth shaking judgment is enough to fear someone into following God but I don't believe that fearing someone into believing is the right to lead people to faith. This passage doesn't just show the justice of God it shows something of the heart of God and how he hates evil.
  • Matthew 24 v 29-31 - "29 “Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ 30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other."
  • Jesus tells of the events of the sixth seal in Matthew 24 when he stops to show and tell his disciples that the end times are coming and the temple in Jerusalem will be destroyed in those times.
  • Jesus is mocked for saying these things when he is on the cross.
  • People will mourn when they see the Son of Man, why? Because the unbelievers will relies they have chosen the wrong side and have chosen to live without God. People joke and mock what the bible says but the unfortunate truth us is they will realise the truth when they see Jesus.
  • I don't want my family and friends to be in that group of people, I don't want their first revelation to be their last, I don't want them to live unfulfilled lives and I don't want them to miss out on salvation.
  • How proactive are we, in showing God to the people we love and those around us?
  • Isaiah 34 v 4 - "All the stars in the sky will be dissolved and the heavens rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shrivelled figs from the fig tree."
  • Most of us probably thought Jesus was prophesying of his own revelation from God, but to truly hit home with people he is actually quoting and prophesying using what God had already revealed to Isaiah. God revealed this to Isaiah to prepare the people of his day and to prepare people for what Jesus was going to say.
  • The sixth seal shows a list of people who will cry out for the mountains to fall on them, some are powerful and rich and others not.
  • Isaiah 2 v 10 - "Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendour of his majesty!"
  • Isaiah tells the arrogant people who think they know best to go and hide for the presence of the Lord is near.
  • The question is how assured are you of your salvation?
  • Are you ready to stand before God?
